Round 1 of the AUS playoffs is over. SMU swept Moncton two games to none with their win Saturday night, while STFX swept UPEI Friday night to advance to the second round.
With that, UNB will host the X-Men on Thursday and Friday night at the Aitken Centre. STFX, of course, was the only team in Canada to beat UNB all season.
Round 2 will be a best-of-five series, so UNB will need to win 3 games to advance. The season series was won by UNB, three games to one. UNB outscored STFX 21-13, but take out a 9-3 game and the series was much closer. The X-Men put a scare into UNB earlier in the season by forcing the V-Reds to overtime in one of their losses. STFX has momentum working in their favour, coming fresh off a hard fought series with UPEI, and will no doubt be using their recent win over UNB as motivation. Expect a battle.

lol,the only team in canada, make it dramatic or what, the only team in the aus to beat them you mean.
stfx will upset...mark my words
Hulit is back for the X-Men as well, this should help them be more competitive but in the end it is UNB's series to lose.
X doesn't have much of a chance, IMO. Hope it is a good series.
Squirrel H8TR, you can come up and sit with us...
Sorry Stevo, no can do.
Paint me green and gold but I can’t stand watching a game at the AUC. The atmosphere, game sounds, sight lines, are not to my fickle liking. I love the old Beav and will miss it when we move to the new rink.
I think the X-men are very much underestimated in their ability to step it up in crucial games. Sure they slipped a bit in the second half of the season but they've showed their ability to contend with the best. Always in the game when playing against the top 3 of the league splitting 2-2 with SMU going 1-3 vs Acadia while losing one of those in overtime and another by one goal as well as 1-3 vs. UNB while aside for the blowout in November at the Atkin centre all other 3 games were hard fought battles. Don't be so sure UNB has this is the bag
Three game series, I would be a wee bit nervous.
Five games series, nope.
X gave UNB a wake-up call last weeekend of season - thank you!
Like the Olympics, it's all about goaltending. If Gillis stands on his head, it could be a 4-game series. Like the last post, can't see UNB losing in a best of five. No way.
No...St. FX is the only team in Canada to beat them so far this year...they played games against other CIS teams and won them...it's not dramatic...just the truth..
