Ben Shutron Commits to V-Reds

A bit of recruiting news to pass along - according to today's Daily Gleaner, defenceman Ben Shutron has commited to the V-Reds. Shutron was a big part of the Windsor Spitfires' Memorial Cup Championship run this year.

Once again Coach MacDougall recruits not only a good hockey player, but also a player that comes with a good reputation for character and leadership (not to mention a championship ring). Before being traded to Windsor last year, Shutron was named team captain of his former club in Kitchener.

Shutron was drafted in the 4th round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by Chicago, and recently attended a summer rookie camp held by the Los Angeles Kings. No doubt he chose UNB to further pursue his pro-hockey goals while studying.

This should be an excellent addition to the V-Reds' blue line.

Solid Pick up for UNB, I would love to hear some of the other names leak. I know Chris Culligan of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles choose UNB over SMU for sure, but thats all I know for sure

anyone else?

Trust me on this one folks - UNB is much better for having Shutron. I lived in Kingston while he was with the Frontenacs and moved to Kitchener myself shortly after he was dealt - he's a helluva player with great character who will fit nicely in Red.
