Today the V-Reds announced that former team captain of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Chris Culligan, has committed to the program. Click here for the official press release.
Culligan is described as being a very smart player with terrific puck handling skills. He was a consistent offensive contributor for the Screaming Eagles, averaging over a point per game over the last three years, and brings a healthy mix of playmaking and scoring ability to the UNB forward ranks.
This past year, Culligan became the Screaming Eagles all-time points leader, and donated $1 for every point he scored as part of his “Culligan Cares Campaign” , which raised over $22,500 for Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s Cancer Centre. He should be a welcome addition to the UNB Varsity Reds program.

Article this morn say Maritimers will represent largest portion of recruiting crop this year. Which means at least three maritimers still to be announced!
I think that meant for the AUS in general...not UNB
That meant UNB :-) Wait a few weeks and you'll see.
Well, we all know that both Spencer Corcoran (PEI) and Nick Layton (NB) have yet to be announced... that is, in fact, if Nick Layton is headed to the VReds for the upcoming season. That leaves, according to the opinions here, one more Maritime born player to be announced. I'm stumped... maybe PK can give us some insight into what he seems to already know. What do you say, PK?
A team mate of Layton's
I'm assuming you are referring to either Matt Fillier or Pat O'Keefe. Matt Fillier, I believe, has already committed to another school. Although I do remember at one point reading about some connection between him and UNB but that could have simply been someone's speculation. Pat O'Keefe, if I remember correctly, was rumoured to be going to STU. Of course that was when several Tommy fans thought that Layton was going to be playing for them as well. Maybe now that Layton is going to be a VRed, O'Keefe is planning on becoming one as well.
Pat O'Keefe was recruited by SMU.
The surprise annoucement is Robert Slaney of Cape Breton coming to UNB
Robert Slaney was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs so you will not be seeing him at UNB...
Matt Fillier has NOT committed to another school ...
Btw, I understand Gardiner tried to recruit Slaney, but got trumped by the Leafs contract ...
Don't read anything into Killer's NOT comment :-) :-)
Call me crazy but I could have sworn that about a month or so ago I found a news article on the web stating that Matt Fillier had committed to an Ontario school. Do you think, however, that I can find it now... NO. Sorry, my bad.
any word on the cost of a season pass yet
