V-Reds 5-1 Winners Over UdeM

It took 2 periods for UNB to warm up on this cold night, but the 5-1 final in the annual Mark Jeffrey Memorial Game sent the crowd home happy.  Scoring for UNB were Daine Todd, Hunter Tremblay, Jeff Lee with two, and John Scott Dickson. Travis Fullerton started for UNB and made 19 saves for the win.  Final shots were 40-20 in favour of the V-Reds.

Prior to the game, 5th year forward John Scott Dickson was recognized as this year's winner of the Mark Jeffrey memorial scholarship.  Congratulations to John Scott!

Here's Thursday's Daily Gleaner game story.

Played as well as they had to to win. Don't think the effort was there in the first, but the second & third were a different story. Strong game by Lee, and Fullerton made the saves when required. All of he D played well, breaking up a lot of rushes. By the look of the results tonight, things are tightening up in the basement.

i got a question, do we really have to announce the goals and penalties in french and english because of moncton.even the radio announcers say les eagle bleu, come on, its blue eagles..plz..

The official team name is the Aigles Bleus. They have made it quite clear in recent years that they would prefer folks not use the English translation, and I respect that. If you ever have the opportunity to listen to a French-language broadcast of a UNB-UdeM game, their broadcasters don't call the V-Reds the "Universitaire Rouge", they refer to them at the Varsity Reds.

As for the dual language public announcements at UNB-UdeM games (or UNB-UQTR exhibition games)I believe it is common courtesy. It would be a lot simpler if the Aitken Centre replaced Peter with a bilingual public announcer (as is the case in Moncton), and I would prefer if UNB did it for EVERY game, seeing as Fredericton is the capital of a bilingual province ...

I agree with Dave, New Brunswick is bilingual province and the school is funded by the provinace and feds - it's only reasonable that all public announcements be in both languages.

I agree more that Peter needs to be replaced.

It sounds like it was a good game, sorry I missed it (away on business).

Great win at home. Could have been a blowout if not for the Aigles Blues netminder. This weekend will be tough for them, 4 games in 5 days.

Anyone know how long Porcyshen is expected to be out?

how can anyone say it was a good game...look at the shots,it was 30-10 at the end of the second.poor fullerton must of been freezing to death...ya they won but they didnt put much effort in it until the third.maybe they shound be handycapped and play without a goalie for a game or 2.

Have to agree that Peter must be go. The UNB program has evolved and yet, their "off-ice'' officials are the same guys who did games 20 years ago. And it shows. Constant changing of goals and assists. Mumbling into the mic. Lack of enthusiasm. And why do we get a steady dose of Dave Morell reading UNB propaganda when you've already got a guy in there. Boring!!!!!! Get a younger guy with a little pop in his voice and his demeanour. Everything else about the program is better. Time for the ancient mumbler to move on as well.
