X-Men Top V-Reds By 4-3 Score

For just the third time this year, the V-Reds lose a hockey game...this time to STFX X-Men on home ice.

The game stared off well enough with Hunter Tremblay, Chris Culligan, and Jonathan Harty all scoring goals, sending UNB to a 3-0 lead.  But a series of odd man rushes and bad bounces would eventually lead to 4 consecutive goals scored agains the V-Reds.  Unofficial shot count was 39-21 for UNB.  Travis Fullerton took the loss for UNB.

UNB will look to rebound from their first loss of the regular season tomorrow night vs. Dalhousie.

Unfortunate to lose..but overall a pretty entertaining game to watch...StFx goalie was lights out in the 2nd and 3rd.

26-1 is still pretty good.

St. FX has been a bit of a streak-buster for UNB in recent years...starting January 4th, 2008 UNB went 22-0-1 in the regular season and playoffs (24-1-1 if you count Nationals) before losing 5-2 in St. FX on November 1st, 2008. Then they went on a 15-1-1 regular season run from November 13th, 2008 to Feb 7th, 2009, when they lost at home to X 3-2 in regulation (but were only on a two game winning streak at the time). Now they were on a 28-0 regular season run (2 games to end last year and first 26 this season) before losing to X again in regulation.

Since 2007/08 UNB has gone 73-6-4 in the regular season and three of those six regulation losses have been to St. FX. (The other 3 have been to SMU, twice, and Moncton) They have also gone 47 straight regular season games without losing by more than one goal (since game #8 last year, a 4-2 loss in SMU).

Interesting stats, but that plus $2 will get you a coffee and donut. St. FX won the game last night because of a hot goaltender, and taking advantage of their chances. It wasn't so much that UNB lost the the game, but that St. FX found a way to win it. Have to be impressed by how gritty St. Fx is, and think they don't have probably their best player in Hulit either.

Had to work and could only watch the first bit of the game. Noticed that Rogers had a different crew working the game. Anybody know why? Thought the other guys were pretty good but really didn't get a chance to watch how these new guys did. Any comments.
