SMU wins University Cup to close out 2009-10 season

Congratulations to the SMU Huskies who won the University Cup Sunday night with a 3-2 win over the University of Alberta Golden Bears.  The SMU Huskies are the 2009-2010 CIS National Champions.

And with that, we'll look forward to the quest to determine the 2010-2011 champions...

As much as I despise those 'Dogs', it's great to see the AUS at the top of the heap. Good tournament for the Huskies, and good on Steinburg.
Nice to see a rookie get the winner, and Conway was outstanding.
Should be a great 2010-2011 season!!

Congratulations to the Huskies and Trevor Stienburg, one of the good guys in the game at any level.

SMU found a way to win, like any good team and redeemed themselves from last year.

Good to see Rancourt end his CUS career this way; assisting on the game winning Goal!

258 points in 169 games in his storied career here in the AUS.

And a truly class act is Marc Rancourt. He handled the disappointment regarding that loss to Western with so much dignity and really articulated the way the team was feeling so well. And then to get back to the nationals and win it, hey, kudos to the entire group. Trevor deserves a lot of credit for hanging in there and getting his team into the playoff zone. And good for Freddy, too. He's been with that program for a long time and finally, he gets a sense of what winning a national title is all about. And beating the Evil Monkeys just adds to the buzz, I'm sure.

its a good story all around!

-a rookie wins it for SMU, looking and solidifying himself like Robert Pearce did here.

-SMU makes up for the collapse from last years tourney

-Trevor Steinberg who was critically ill last year.

-Mike Danton for getting himself into SMU, playing a little slower than he would have liked but was flying all over the ice.

-And a win here solidfies SMU as a hockey powerhouse, because everyone is going to want to play for the defending champs.

Barring any upsets like this past season, we will see a SMU vs. UNB round 3 for the AUS title, and maybe even a national championship next season
