Fullerton and Yeomans Return With Purpose

It would appear that rumours of Travis Fullerton playing pro-hockey and Derek Yeomans joining the army are premature.  Bill Hunt talks with Coach MacDougall about UNB's goaltending situation in today's Daily Gleaner and confirms the summer's worst kept secret - that Martin Houle is not coming to UNB.

Instead UNB will go with Travis Fullerton's conference leading goals-against-average (2.09) and Derek Yeomans' conference leading save percentage (.914), as the two netminders return with more experience and extra motivation.

Update: Bruce Hallihan adds his thoughts in Thursday's edition of the Daily Gleaner.

What extra motivation is that exactly? The fact that UNB fans slammed them to the ground? The fact that MacDougall proclaimed a saviour replacement last spring and left one or both of them wondering what their future would hold? Nothing like feeling expendable to motivate a person. A self made UNB problem. You’re lucky they both have agreed to come back, as they are both good goalies.

So when Taylor Hall was drafted in Edmonton we should see the teams top two lines all leave and become unmotivated?? No one proclaimed a saviour, the only information ever put out about him was one press release.

"Nothing like feeling expendable to motivate a person."

Welcome to the NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL, QMJHL, WHL and pretty much every level of competitive sport. In competitive athletics you improve and be better or you don't play/get cut. That is the formula for winning players/teams everywhere.

No it may not make the players feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but competition does motivate, that's a proven fact. It should have actually motivated them to improve this summer knowing that another goalie would be coming in.

Time to save face UNB fans. A few more long winded explanations and rebuttals should do.

Ah, the banter is beginning. This must mean that AUS hockey is just around the corner. Finally!

I can't wait for Lavigne to finish red-shirting this year so he can suit up next :-)!

Hodgy has landed at SMU to play football this year for the Huskies. Him and Danton would be a wrecking force this winter if he plays hockey.

Carl Hodgson DL 6-3 260 1984-07-16 Arts 4 Fredericton NB.

I think he may have changed his name to escape detection. :-)
