Update On Shutron and Wright, Game Vs. Pirates Cancelled

In Thursday's edition of The Daily Gleaner, Bill Hunt updates the V-Reds hockey world on the status of Ben Shutron and Ben Wright.  It's encouraging to hear Shutron talk about returning to the lineup this season, and we wish him all the best.  Ben Wright's knee injury is estimated to keep him out for 8-weeks, which could end up costing him the first half of the year.  Fortunately he'll be back in the line-up as the run to the playoffs begins.

Hunt also talks with Portland Pirates director of communication Mark Jenneret and confirms the rumour that the game against the AHL's Portland Pirates has been cancelled.

I like his comment on not feeling any pain. It's your femur - that's the Percocet talking.

Why isn't STU playing in the tournament this weekend, i thought they usually played in those tournaments?

What ever happened to the President's Cup game??

Seems weird having no preseason battle of the hill.

I know UNB should have the depth to get by for a bit but losing Shutron (especially) is a significant blow to the team any way you look at it...you just can't easily replace a guy who was a PPG defenceman and the AUS leader in +/- as a rookie, as well as a big leader for them (was going to be an assistant this year according to the article). As someone mentioned over at HFboards (and I agree), he was well on his way to becoming one of the top defencemen in the country. Hopefully he comes back the same as he was pre-injury.
