More Exhibition Games Revealed

The UNB Varsity Reds official website shows a few more exhibition games coming up this year.

Fans won't have to wait long for a game that matters everywhere except the standings.  First in September at the Fall Classic, UPEI, Guelph and defending National Champions SMU Huskies will all battle for bragging rights on September 24-25.

The team will travel south to play UMass in Amherst, then on to Vermont October 2nd, and 4th respectively. McGill is coming back to UNB Dec 30 just a few nights before the already mentioned games with Providence College in January.

With the way other AUS teams have been recruiting, it's looking like a very high caliber season of hockey awaits us this fall.

V-Reds Heading (Canada) West?

Edmonton Oilers colour analyst (and former Alberta Golden Bear Communications Officer) Bob Stauffer recently speculated that the V-Reds might be making the trip west to Alberta to play the Golden Bears and Dinos.  If you visit the Calgary Dinos website and check their September schedule, you'll find two games listed vs. UNB, first on Wednesday the 15th, and later on Saturday the 18th.  Nothing confirmed from Alberta, but it'd be a shame if these two titans didn't meet in exhibition play.

Let's cross our fingers that if this all materializes, both the Dinos and Golden Bears return the favour and come to UNB for a few exhibition games in the future.

Of course, odds are we'll see be seeing one, if not both teams in March.

Tickets For Nationals Moving As Planned

In today's Daily Gleaner, Bill Hunt provides an update on the progress of ticket sales for this year's CIS University Cup tournament.  329 of last year's season ticket holders have already purchased 419 passes to the event.

Today marks the first day people can purchase new season tickets and the Nationals package.  By July 15, the general public will be able to purchase passes to the tournament.  Don't leave this too long or you might find yourself having to sit in Section 6 next to fans from the visiting teams!

One exiting piece of information was shared by marketing director Dave Morell.  The UNB Dome will be morphed into a Fan zone for people to take in the action.  How many of you remember the Fox Hole from 2003-04?

AUS To Try Two-Referee System

In today's Daily Gleaner, Bill Hunt writes about the AUS's decision to use two referees for some games this year.  In short, each team will play 3 home games and 3 away games with two refs.  And most importantly, it appears there will be two referees for Nationals.

Also, for the younger V-Reds fans out there,  Hunt brings us some news on UNB Summer Hockey programs.  Looks like a solid line-up of instructors again.  Kids, let us know if you see anyone wearing a V-Reds jersey who was not on last year's roster.

2010-2011 AUS Men's Hockey Schedule Released

In case you missed it from UNBHockey on Twitter, the AUS has released the regular season schedule for men's hockey.  The UNB schedule begins October 15th at UPEI, with the first home game October 22nd vs Dalhousie.  The final game of the regular season takes place at Dalhousie February 12th.

Most fans will be pleased to see there's no Halloween or Valentine's Day games for UNB this year.  At the time of this posting, the November 21st game vs STU is absent from UNB schedule, but there will be 28 games.  Exhibition games are usually announced by the schools later in the summer.
