X-Men X-plode In 3rd Period, Force Game 5

The STFX X-Men aren't making it easy on the Varsity Reds after posting a 6-3 win at STFX in Game 4.  Scoring for UNB were Nick MacNeil, Jordan Clendenning, and Daine Todd.  Travis Fullerton took the loss in goal.

The Varsity Reds will get a chance to win the AUS Championship in front of their fans on Friday night when Game 5 is played.  Home ice advantage is what they played the regular season for, so make sure you clear your schedule, get to the Aitken Centre and cheer on the Varsity Reds!

Go Reds Go!

Calm down; Is UNB not allowed to lose a game?...UNB will come out flying Friday in front of a big crowd....it's been a long time since UNB won an AUS Champ on home ice (against Stfx if i remember correctly). I can't wait to see them win the cup on home ice.

Losing is allowed, a dismal third period is not..

I am beyond disappointed..Bottom line if you're going to play like that in the third period, especially the goal tending, don't even show up at the nationals

Definitely let this one get away...a two goal lead with 25 minutes left is usually an automatic win for this team. I didn't watch the game but it sounded like the special teams were especially brutal tonight (at least 3 PPG's and a SHG against).

Since UNB beat X at home in the 2003 AUS Finals they have lost on home ice to Acadia (2006), Moncton (2007) and SMU (2009). They are due for a victory...

I personally am not going to blame this loss on Fullerton. 3 of X's goals were scored on the PP, 1 was a shorty which, I have to admit, I missed and at least 1 of the other 2 goals was scored on an odd man rush.

Hopefully the team will learn from this experience and come out better prepared on Friday night. Should be a good one.

I knew you were going to delete my first post due my use of a certain 4-letter word. Let's try this again. X is going to come into Freddy on Friday with all the momentum. This loss tonight may ending up costing UNB the series.

How nuts is that place gonna be on Friday when they win the AUS Championship on home ice. Gonna be historic.

I assume MacIntosh/Gallant/Procyshen were all out of the line-up again?

Yup. Along with Hepditch and Lynes.

Dissapointing yes! On the positive side, who honestly thought that they would sweep in Antigonish?
It's playoffs and this league is better than CanadaWest and a lot better than the OUA!
Game 5 could be a preview of the 2011 National final.

Count me as one person who does not want to see St. FX at Nationals...I think I would almost rather take our chances against Alberta.

STFX is going to have all the momentum going into Friday's game. Not sure how deflated UNB will be from the monumental collapse in the third.

Hope there is at least a full house. Will be disappointed with anything less than 3000.

It's hard to watch that type of inconsistent officiating so I can only imagine how difficult it is for the players. Obvious penalties are ignored and then mickey mouse calls are made that help change the momentum.

However, the game changed completely at the start of the 3rd period when Fullerton couldn't put the puck around the boards because of water behind the net and the puck was stolen from him for an empty net short handed goal. Just after that, the next time he handled the puck he fired it into the netting for a delay of game penalty, which resulted in an X power play goal. Things just got worse from there on.

Up until then, UNB played a very strong dominating game and only 2 X power play goals really had them in the game at all. Even when it was 4-3 UNB had very good chances to tie it up again but just couldn't score.

I'm confident that the team will rise to the occasion Friday night.

Might as well get a bad game out of the way now as opposed to next week.
