This morning the V-Reds announced that former Kelowna Rockets sniper Geordie Wudrick will be joining the V-Reds after Christmas. At 6'4, 214 lbs Wudrick brings more size to the UNB lineup. Let's also hope he brings the same scoring touch that saw him register 43 goals in 71 games last season in the WHL.
Wudrick had been playing pro in Germany this fall with the Rosenheim Star Bulls in Germany where he put up 3 goals and 6 assists in 14 games. He has already played a game against CIS opponents, back in September he scored a goal and added an assist in an exhibition game against the CW's 2nd place Manitoba Bisons.
Welcome to UNB, Geordie!

NICE!
Huge News. Welcome aboard Geordie.
With Fullerton possibly coming back this week, Drummond (hopefully) and Wudrick joining the team after Christmas, and Lynes/Corcoran/Kidd being the only guys injured right now and having the break to get healthy (I'm assuming the worst for Clendenning and that he won't be back for awhile)....UNB should be in very good shape going into the second half. Although I don't know how they are going to find time for everyone
I kind of got lost here - "He has already played a game against CIS opponents, back in September he scored a goal and added an assist in an exhibition game against the CW's 2nd place Manitoba Bisons." Who'd he play an exhibition game with?
He's a great addition, big body who can clearly fill the net. UNB now has 5 solid scoring lines...haha
Played the exhibition game vs Manitoba with his German pro team.
Played the exhibition game vs Manitoba with his German pro team.
They're going to have to make a lot of championship rings for UNB when the win again this year with all those bodies!
like i said before, money buys championships...
Ask the New York Mets/LA Dodgers/New York Yankees/Boston Red Sox/New York Rangers (pre-lockout)/Washington Redskins/Philadelphia Eagles/etc how true that statement is.
UNB practices after Christmas should be very very intense as players audition for ice time!
Why did this guy play in Germany and not the AHL this year? He played some preseason with Phoenix didn't he?
Either way, sick pick up for the V-Reds!
Big mistake, remember the X series a couple years ago?
What about it? I assume you mean the year UNB got swept?
Remember when X hasn't won a championship in recent memory? I remember.
I posted this over at HF but thought I would here to...maybe spark some more discussion.
With Wudrick and Drummond joining the team after Christmas UNB has, by my count, 27 players on their roster now.
Goaltenders (2): Fullerton and LaCosta
Defencemen (8): Kidd/Wright/Denny/Stamler/Harty/Gallant/Desnoyers/Shutron
Forwards (17): Wudrick/Drummond/Corcoran/Houde-Caron/Campbell/Lee/MacNeil/Lynes/Todd/Clendenning/MacDougall/Carroll/Fillier/Bailey/Salituro/Culligan/Nesbitt
Out of the D I would say the only locks are Harty/Stamler/Gallant with Wright and Kidd (if healthy) right there as well, leaving Shutron/Desnoyers/Denny for the last spot.
It is going to be much more interesting to see what they do with the forwards. I would think Bailey/MacNeil/Culligan/Carroll/Todd (assuming his health remains good)/Nesbitt/Fillier/Campbell/Clendenning (if healthy) will all be in there no matter what. Wudrick and Drummond will probably get a good look. That leaves Houde-Caron/MacDougall/Corcoran/Lynes/Lee/Salituro to fight over the remaining forward spot.
Of course current injuries to Corcoran/Lynes/Kidd/Clendenning will help sort things out a little bit...and it would be unrealistic to think there won't be a couple more in the second half. Either way, there are going to be alot of good players in the stands every night.
I almost wonder if UNB is starting to plan ahead for next year as they will probably losing quite a few players. And maybe the list of players coming out of the CHL isn't as strong next year. Just a thought.
There is definitely some planning for next year going on here.
