Tremblay and DaCosta Play First AHL Games

The buzz around town all week was that Hunter Tremblay was expected to suit up with the Oklahoma City Barons for his first AHL game Friday night.  Nobody knew his former teammate Justin DaCosta would be doing the same for the Lake Erie Monsters.

DaCosta played 3 years at UNB and showed his offensive prowess from the blueline by putting up 53 points in 77 games.  He is probably most remembered for his patented shoot-out move which seemed to work every single time.

Congratulations to both Varsity Reds alumni on making their AHL debuts.

Nick Layton Signs WIth Mudbugs of CHL

The rumours floating around the Aitken Centre last weekend proved to be true.  Nick Layton has signed an amateur-tryout contract with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudugs of the CHL, which has been a popular destination for V-Reds over the years.  According to the link, he made his debut last night.

Layton had become a regular in the lineup this year, working his way into 24 of 28 games where he put up 1 goal and 5 assists, and played a solid checking role for the team.  Best of luck to Nick in his future endeavours.

2011 V-Reds Best of All Time?

Bill Hunt makes a case for the 2011 version of the V-Reds being the best ever in his piece in today's Daily Gleaner.  A strong case can be made for any of the four championship teams, and whether or not you were around to see them all in person might influence your decision.

It makes for an interesting discussion.  Was the 2011 squad the best V-Reds team ever, or does that honour go to a team of the past?  Let us know in the comments section.
