The Brunswickan on Harty and Gallant

In today's Brunswickan Nick Murray has more on defencemen Luke Gallant and Jonathan Harty being named co-winners of the Mark Jeffrey Memorial Award, the third time since 2000 that two players have shared the award.

Said head coach Gardiner MacDougall on what he looks for when selecting the winner of this prestigious award:
“When you look for criteria you look for a high performer, a player that does well in school, and one of the leaders of the hockey club. We try to make it a senior member in his fourth or fifth season that has given a lot to the program, and has had success within it.”
I think it is safe to say that both Gallant (5th year senior, MBA student, 2011 CIS Nationals Tournament MVP, and 3rd in defenceman scoring this year) and Harty (4th year, MBA student, member of 2011 CIS Nationals All-Tournament Team, 2nd in defenceman scoring this season) fit this description perfectly.

The importance of the honour is certainly not lost on Gallant, who added:
“This is the ultimate award you can get from UNB. It’s such a prestigious award and to be voted among your coaches as a leader that brings emotion and passion to the game like Mark did, it’s just a privilege to be among the past winners and have my name associated with Mark.”
Gallant, Harty, and the rest of the Varsity Reds begin their quest for a 2nd consecutive AUS Championship next week.
