UNB: Hockey Dynasty

In an article posted on the UNB website the V-Reds Prospect Program, and the work Varsity Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall and Co. have done to make it an elite development camp for players of all ages, is highlighted. Since its inception in 2002 the program has seen 255 of its players drafted to the Canadian Hockey League, 36 to the National Hockey League, and 5 players play for Team Canada at World Junior Hockey Championship.

There are currently 36 players in the NHL who have either participated in development camps held at UNB or played for the program. This past season alone four members of the '92 V-Red Prospects were drafted in the first round of the NHL draft - Gabriel Landeskog, Sean Couturier, Nathan Beaulieu, and Zack Phillips. As a result of this success scouts from both the QMJHL and NHL frequently attend these invitational camps.
