1997-98 V-Reds To Be Inducted Into Wall Of Fame

We received word today that the 1997-98 Varsity Reds hockey team will be inducted into the Fredericton Wall of Fame later this year, along with Matt Stairs among others. The story is behind the Daily Gleaner's paywall but David Kilfoil gives us some of the details here (post # 24).

The 1997-98 edition of the V-Reds was one of the best in school history as they captured the school's first national hockey championship. That season UNB compiled a 24-3-1 regular season record, outscored its opponents 167-68, and had an incredible 9 players average over a point per game. They then went on to defeat Acadia in 4 games in the AUS Finals before beating the Axemen again in the National Championship game in Saskatoon. That team has undoubtedly had a lasting impact on the program as the Varsity Reds have iced a national contender for the better part of the 14 season since then.

The induction ceremony will be held May 5th at 6:30 PM at the Fredericton Convention Centre. Tickets are $75.
