Aigles Bleus Earn Trip To AUS Finals, University Cup

UNB's opponent in the AUS Finals has been determined and it will be an all-New Brunswick affair. The Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 2-1 tonight in Moncton to win the best-of-5 semi-final series 3 game to 1, advancing to their first conference championship since the 2006/07 season. More importantly for UdeM, by virtue of UNB's victory over UPEI earlier in the week the Aigles Bleus have also secured a spot at the University Cup later this month no matter the outcome of the AUS finals. The Varsity Reds have an automatic berth since they are hosting the event. This marks Moncton's first trip to the University Cup since they hosted the event in 2007/08.

Before the season began Moncton head coach Serge Bourgeois made a bold prediction, stating:
"I think we’ll be right in the mix for second, third or fourth. We’d like to be in that second spot or even challenge UNB for a couple games. I know the other teams might think we’re nuts, but I want to set my sights high. We would love to be in Fredericton in March. ”
Considering Moncton finished in 7th place and out of the playoffs last year, and every team in the conference seemed to have improved themselves over the summer many people, myself included, felt Bourgeois was being much too optimistic about his team's chances and was simply saying all of the right things in the media. Turns out he wasn't so crazy afterall.

We now await word on the schedule for the finals and will post it as soon as it become available. We will also have plenty of stats, info, history, and previews leading up to the series between the two long-time rivals so be sure to check back often. Buckle up folks, it should be a dandy.
