University Cup Festivities Begin Today

The 2012 Cavendish University Cup presented by the Home Depot gets under way today with a couple of off-the-ice events.

First, at 12:45 PM there will be a media conference in the Colter Room at the Aitken Centre.

Then, at 7PM the All-Canadian Awards Banquet will be held at The Playhouse. Parents and fans wishing to attend may do so on a first come first serve basis (balcony seating only, dress is business/casual). UNB has one player nominated for one of the major awards to be given out on the evening - captain Kyle Bailey, who is a finalist for the prestigious Dr. Randy Gregg Award, which is "given annually to the player who best represents the spirit of intercollegiate hockey by his leadership both on and off the ice and by his conduct throughout the season."

Also, defencemen Jonathan Harty and Bretton Stamler, as well as Bailey, should all receive consideration for a spot on one of the two All-Canadian Teams while Tyler Carroll has a chance to be named to the All-Rookie Team.

Of course the main event begins on Thursday at 2PM when McGill and Moncton face-off in the first game of the tournament.
