Some notes:
- This will be only the second time since 1974-75 UNB has opened the season versus St. Thomas, and the first time they have played host. The only other time the two have kicked off the season was in October of 1998 (8-6 victory for UNB).

- The V-Reds currently have a 23 game winning streak in home openers dating back to a 6-5 OT loss to SMU in November of 1988.

- UNB will host Moncton in their second game of the season on Saturday, October 13th. Barring any exhibition games between the two this will be their first meeting since last season's AUS Finals that UNB swept in three games.

- The Varsity Reds will play their first regular season game at STU's brand new Grant-Harvey Centre on Friday, November 9th. Their second appearance - on Friday, February 1st - will be the annual Lou Chabot Memorial game.

- UPEI makes their first visit to the AUC on Friday, November 23rd. The Panthers won both regular season games played at the AUC last year, the first time a team had pulled the feat since Moncton did it in the 2006-2007 season.

- UNB will look to extend a number of lengthy home winning streaks against AUS teams. This includes a 26 game winning streak (STU), a 17 game streak (Acadia), a 10 game streak (Dalhousie), a 9 game streak (Moncton), and a 7 game streak (SMU). By contrast, the V-Reds do not have more than a two game winning streak on the road against any AUS team except for STU.

- UNB will play 16 games (7 home, 9 away) in the first half of the season and only 12 (7 home, 5 away) in the second half. This is most likely due to the fact that the World Universiade Games were originally going to be held in the winter of 2012-2013. They have since been moved to December 11th-21st, 2013.

- The uneven split of games between the first and second half of the season means UNB will play both of their road games against Dalhousie and Acadia before Christmas.

- UNB will also open the second half of the season against the Tigers and Axemen, meaning they will have completed their season series against each team by the 18th game of the season, more than a month before the end of the season.

- Arguably the toughest stretch of the season will take place from January 11th-19th when UNB will play 5 games in 9 days, including 4 on the road against teams that made the playoffs last season. The V-Reds visit St. FX on the 11th, SMU on the 12th, come home to play STU on Wednesday the 16th, before heading back out on the road to play UPEI and Moncton on the 18th and 19th, respectively.

- The home game against STU on Wednesday, January the 16th is the only regular season game that isn't scheduled for either a Friday or Saturday. There are two games scheduled for every weekend, except for the last weekend of the regular season when every team only plays on Friday night (February 8th).

- For the second consecutive season UNB will play their season finale at home versus Moncton (on Friday, February 8th). This is the seventh time since the 28 game schedule was adopted in 2000-2001 the V-Reds and Aigles Bleus will end the season against one another. UNB has won their previous three home finales, and their last six season finales overall.

- February 8th marks the earliest the regular season has wrapped up in over 38 years (as far back as we have records).

- The University Cup will be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from March 14th-17th, 2013. Since the AUS has two berths at this year's tournament the AUS quarter-finals and finals will both be best-of-3 while the semi-finals will be a best-of-5.
