According to head coach Gardiner MacDougall Braes "has become a proven offensive catalyst with his competitive level and excellent leadership qualities". Upon acquiring Braes Moose Jaw Director of Hockey Operations Allan Millar called him "a proven top centre in our league, who provides tremendous character and leadership to our group." Meanwhile, Lethbridge General Manager Rich Preston said Braes "didn't just show up every game to play, he game to win and that's an important difference. He wanted to win and he was willing to do whatever to win. There's a lot of players that show up and want to play hard , but you want guys who are there to win."
