V-Reds Kick Off Fall Classic Tonight

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds look to pick up their first win of the season tonight when they welcome the Carleton Ravens out of the OUA East Division to the AUC for the first game of the annual Fall Classic. Game time is scheduled for 7PM.

The V-Reds are 31-1-1 in their last 34 games against OUA teams, but are coming off of a disappointing 6-2 loss to the University of Moncton in their pre-season opener on Monday night in a game that took place in Abrams-Village, PEI. It marked the first time in 2455 days UNB had lost an exhibition game against a CIS team. They will look to rebound against the Ravens, who will be playing their first game of the season. Carleton will continue on to Wolfville, NS this weekend to partake in the Don Wells Memorial Tournament, featuring Saint Mary's, St. FX, and tournament host Acadia.

The V-Reds and Ravens have met only once in the previous 42 years, with UNB skating to a convincing 7-0 victory on September 19th, 2008 at the AUC in the semi-finals of the Fall Classic. However, that was only Carelton's second season competing at the CIS level after a twenty-four year absence. Since re-entering the league the Ravens have been a consistent above .500 team, with their best season coming in 2010-2011 when they compiled an 18-8-2 record. Last year they went 15-10-3 and featured one of the stingiest defences in the country, surrendering 78 goals.

For those who cannot make it the game will be webcast here.
