V-Reds, Patriotes Square Off Tomorrow Afternoon

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds wrap up their annual Fall Classic tomorrow afternoon with a match-up against the UQTR Patriotes at the AUC. Game time is 2PM. This will be the last home game until the regular season opener on October 12th.

The V-Reds are coming off of their first victory of the season, a 3-1 decision over the Carleton Ravens on Thursday night that evened their pre-season record at 1-1. UQTR, meanwhile, got their exhibition schedule underway this weekend with a pair of road wins over the UPEI Panthers, 3-2 on Friday night and 4-1 this afternoon.

The Patriotes, who are an annual fixture among the top teams in the country, have become a familiar opponent to many UNB fans as they will be making their 11th trek to New Brunswick to face the Varsity Reds since 1984-85, with 9 of those occurring in the previous 11 seasons. UNB currently holds a 9-1-1 record against the Patriotes and the 11 all-time meetings are the most for the V-Reds against any non-conference team. Here is the game-by-game breakdown:

October 19th, 1984: 4-4 tie
October 10th, 1999: 4-1 win
October 4th, 2002: 5-2 win
