Balanced Attack Lead V-Reds Over Tigers

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds received goals from six different players on their way to a 6-3 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers tonight. There were over 3300 in attendance for the annual North Side Elementary School Night

The game began very auspiciously for UNB as they took the first two penalties, with the Tigers converting on their second opportunity. However, the V-Reds responded with goals by Bryce Swan (Culligan, Todd), Geordie Wudrick (MacNeil), and Daine Todd (Robertson, Houde-Caron) within a span of 2:52 to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. Shots in the period favoured UNB 12-6.

The two teams traded goals in the middle frame. The Varsity Reds extended their lead to three with a goal by Cam Braes (Culligan, Wright) only to see Dalhousie respond just over ten minutes later. That was the only scoring in the period as UNB out-shot the Tigers 10-8.

The V-Reds put the game away with a pair of goals early in the 3rd period. Thomas Nesbitt (MacNeil) scored 57 seconds into the stanza and that was followed by a Tyler Carroll (Culligan, Robertson) goal only 2:11 later. The Tigers found the back of the net late in the period to make it a 6-3 final. UNB held a 15-6 advantage in shots in the period and 37-20 in the game.

- Taylor MacDougall, Chad Denny, and Luke Lynes were scratched for UNB.

- Travis Fullerton made 17 saves to pick up the victory.

- UNB was 0 for 4 on the power play. Dalhousie was 1 for 5.

- Marc-Antoine Desnoyers was +4 in the game.

- In other AUS action tonight Acadia defeated UPEI 4-2, Moncton beat Saint Mary's 3-2 in overtime, and St. FX got by St. Thomas by a 4-1 count.

- With Acadia's win tonight over the Panthers they maintain their two point lead over UNB for top spot in the conference. UNB will be looking to move into a tie for first place tomorrow night when they host the Axemen at 7PM.
