Comeback Bid Falls Short

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds dropped a 5-3 decision tonight in Halifax to the Saint Mary's Huskies, trimming their lead in the AUS to a single point.

The V-Reds fell behind 2-0 after a period and 3-0 early in the second before a pair of power play goals by Colby Pridham (Braes, Desnoyers) at 5:30 and Tyler Carroll (Todd, Culligan) at 8:34 brought them back within one. However, the Huskies would restore their two goal lead just over 13 minutes into the third. Pridham, with his second of the game - and 5th against his former team this season - made it a 4-3 game when he connected on a penalty shot with just under two minutes remaining, but the Huskies would add a power play goal into an empty net to salt away the victory. Shots were 27-23 in favour of UNB.

- The V-Reds went with their usual line-up. Chad Denny, Josh Kidd, Stefan Salituro, and Luke Lynes were all out.

- Dan LaCosta made 18 saves on 22 shots as he suffered his first loss of the season.

- UNB was 2 for 6 on the power play. SMU was 2 for 5.

- In other AUS action tonight Acadia rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat St. Thomas 6-3 in Fredericton, Dalhousie blanked Moncton 4-0 on the road, and UPEI squeaked by St. FX 3-2 in Antigonish.

- UNB is back in action on Wednesday night when they host the St. Thomas Tommies in the annual Mark Jeffry Memorial Game.
