Desnoyers Named AUS Athlete Of The Week

University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds defenceman Marc-Antoine Desnoyers has been named the AUS male athlete of the week for week ending January 20th, the conference announced yesterday.

Desnoyers, a 3rd year native of St. Hippolyte, Quebec, had a big week in helping the V-Reds to a perfect 3-0-0 record. On Wednesday night Desnoyers picked up two assists and was a +2 in UNB's 7-0 win over St. Thomas. On Friday night he assisted on Nick MacNeil's game-tying goal in the 3rd period in a game the V-Reds eventually won 3-2 in overtime over UPEI in Charlottetown. Then, the following night in Moncton, UNB found themselves in overtime once again and it was Desnoyers who scored the game winning goal - his first of the season - with under a minute left in the extra session to give UNB a 3-2 victory. He also had an assist and was +1 in the game. Desnoyers' performance was even more impressive considering the number of minutes he logged as the V-Reds found themselves down to 5 defencemen for most of Friday's game and 4 defencemen for most of Saturday's game.

For the season Desnoyers sits 3rd in the AUS in defencemen scoring with 1 goal and 18 assists, including points in 7 of his last 8 contests. He also leads the entire conference in +/- with a +24 rating.

Congratulations Marc!
