V-Reds Gain Big Road Win Over St. FX

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds extended their winning streak to three games with a crucial 5-2 victory over St. FX tonight in Antigonish. With the win the V-Reds maintain their position atop the AUS standings.

The V-Reds were led by the line of Colby Pridham, Dion Campbell, and Cameron Critchlow, with the trio accounting for 4 goals and 4 assists. Nick MacNeil scored into an empty net in the final minute to round out the scoring.

The Varsity Reds had period leads of 1-0 (Pridam from Critchlow and Campbell) after one and 2-1 (Campbell unassisted) after two. UNB put the game away in the final frame with Pridham (Critchlow and Campbell) and Critchlow (unassisted) scoring in the first 5:19 of the period. Shots favoured the V-Reds 37-25.

- UNB dressed the same line-up as last weekend. Stefan Salituro, Chad Denny, Josh Kidd, and Luke Lynes were all scracthed.

- Dan LaCosta was back in net and looked very sharp, stopping 23 shots to remain undefeated on the season.

- Both teams came up empty with the man advantage. UNB had 6 opportunities and St. FX had 5.

- It proved to be big night for UNB elsewhere as well as both Saint Mary's and Acadia lost. The Huskies fell 2-1 at home to UPEI while Moncton stopped their long losing streak with a 4-3 home win over the Axemen, handing Acadia their 3rd loss in as many games since the break. St. Thomas defeated Dalhousie in the night's other game.

- As a result the AUS standings now show UNB with a 3 point lead over SMU, a 5 point lead over Acadia, and a 6 point lead over St. FX.

- The V-Reds are back at it tomorrow night when the travel to Halifax to face Saint Mary's in another big tilt. Game time is 7PM.
