V-Reds Pull Out Gritty Road Win

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Red found themselves trailing 2-0 and missing three key players due to injury but pulled out a big 3-2 overtime victory tonight in Charlottetown against the UPEI Panthers. With the win UNB improves to 17-5-0 on the season and remains in first place in the AUS.

The V-Reds, who seen Tyler Carroll, Cam Braes, and Tim Priamo all leave the game and not return after sustaining injuries, fell behind 2-0 in the second period before Dion Campbell (Pridham, Critchlow) got them on the board at 7:03 of the middle frame. Nick MacNeil (Culligan, Nesbitt) would tie the game 6:02 into the third period before scoring the game winner, also assisted by Culligan and Nesbitt, with just over two minutes remaining in overtime after the Panthers were penalized for shooting the puck over the glass. Dan LaCosta was very good in net for the Varsity Reds, making 29 saves in the winning effort, including a number of high quality chances.

- Adrian Robertson was still out of the line-up after suffering an injury last weekend. Chad Denny took his place. Stefan Salituro, Josh Kidd, and Luke Lynes all remained out.

- UNB outshot the Panthers 34 - 31.

- The V-Reds were 1 for 2 on the power play while UPEI was 0 for 3.

- All three meetings between UNB and UPEI this season have been decided by a single goal, with the V-Reds emerging victorious in each game.
