Patriotes Eliminate Huskies

The UQTR Patriotes set up a semi-final showdown with the Varsity Reds tomorrow evening after defeating the host Saskatchewan Huskies 3-1 tonight at the University Cup. The loss drops the Huskies to 0-2 and makes them the first team eliminated from the tournament.

Each team scored a goal in the first period, with Tommy Tremblay giving the Patriotes the lead 6:21 into the game before Kyle Bortis responded on the power play for Saskatchewan just over ten minutes later. The teams would skate through a scoreless second period before Olivier Donovan scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on the power play 1:11 into the third period. Tremblay added his second of the game into an empty net with 0.1 second left.

- Shots were 33-25 for the Patriotes. Marc-Antoine Gelinas picked up the win while Ryan Holfeld was tagged with the loss.

- Saskatchewan was 1 for 6 on the power play. UQTR was 1 for 4.

- Attendance was 4379.

- Since both UNB and UQTR defeated the Huskies tomorrow's game between the two will be a "true" semi-final with the winner moving on to Sunday's championship game. Game time is scheduled for 11 PM AST and can be seen live on Sportsnet.
