UNB At The University Cup

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds will be making their 13th appearance at the CIS/CIAU National Tournament, including their 11th since 1997 and 8th under current head coach Gardiner MacDougall. Here is how they have fared in the previous 12 trips:

1963/64 (1-1) - Defeated Montreal, Lost to Alberta

1983/84 (0-2) - Lost to Toronto 3-2 and 5-2 in best-of-3 Eastern Canadian Regional

1996/97 (1-1) - Defeated Alberta 4-3 OT, Lost to Guelph 4-3 in CIS Final

1997/98 (3-0) - Defeated Windsor 3-2 OT, Defeated Alberta 5-2, Defeated Acadia 6-3 in CIS Final

1999/00 (2-1) - Defeated Western 3-2 OT, Defeated Saskatchewan 5-4 OT2, Lost to Alberta 5-4 OT2 in CIS Final

2002/03 (1-2) - Defeated Lakehead 4-3, Lost to UQTR 4-3, Lost to Alberta 8-2 in Bronze Medal Game

2003/04 (2-1) - Defeated Ottawa 5-2, Defeated Alberta 6-5 OT, Lost to St. FX 3-2 OT2 in CIS Final

2006/07 (3-0) - Defeated Saskatchewan 2-1, Defeated UQTR 6-0, Defeated Moncton 3-2 OT in CIS Final

2007/08 (2-1) - Defeated Brock 6-1, Defeated Saskatchewan 4-0, Lost to Alberta 3-2 in CIS Final

2008/09 (3-0) - Defeated Alberta 6-3, Defeated Lakehead 3-1, Defeated Western 4-2 in CIS Final

2010/11 (3-0) - Defeated Calgary 2-1, Defeated Western 4-0, Defeated McGill 4-0 in CIS Final

2011/12 (1-1) - Defeated UQTR 6-1, Lost to Western 3-2


Overall, UNB is 22-10 all-time in National Tournament play, including 15-5 under MacDougall. They are 4-4 in National Championship games, having reached the final in 5 of their last 6 appearances.
