Bulls Sign Kidd

The San Francisco Bulls have signed former Varsity Reds defenceman Josh Kidd, according to the team's website. The Bulls are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks.

There had been some speculation the 6'4'' defender would return to UNB this upcoming year for his fifth, and final, season of eligibility. However, he will instead be joining a Bulls team that has featured a number of former CIS players since entering the league prior to the 2012 - 2013 season, including former V-Reds Jordan Clendenning and Travis Fullerton.

Kidd, who battled numerous injuries during his time as a V-Red, leaves UNB having totaled 7 goals and 19 assists in 72 regular season games over four seasons. He added 3 goals and 4 assists in 24 playoff games as well as 1 goal and 2 assists in 8 games at the University Cup. Of course that goal will forever live in V-Reds lore as it broke a 1-1 tie with only 4.1 seconds remaining against the Calgary Dinos in UNB's opening game at the 2011 tournament, held at the Aitken Centre. The Varsity Reds would go on to claim their 4th national title three nights later.

Kidd's departure is the 4th this offseason from the V-Reds defensive corps as he joins Daine Todd, Ben Wright, and Chad Denny as having moved on. This is the 2nd straight year UNB will see a significant change to their back-end after Jonathan Harty, Luke Gallant, Bretton Stamler, and Spencer Corcoran left the team last year. The Varsity Reds current defense consists of Marc-Antoine Desnoyers, Ben Shutron, Tim Priamo, and Adrian Robertson.
