News And Notes: University Cup, Culligan, V-Reds

The 2014 University Cup kicks off tomorrow afternoon when the #1 ranked Alberta Golden Bears take on the OUA's bronze medal-winning Carleton Ravens. The AUS champion Acadia Axemen see their first action tomorrow evening when they battle the OUA Champion Windsor Lancers. All games will be web-cast on CIS TV, with the final three games also being televised on Sportsnet360. Here are some stories of interest as we await puck drop.

- The CIS has posted their annual in-depth University Cup preview. It includes everything you need to know about the six participating teams.

- The always-excellent Darren Zary of the Saskatoon StarPhoenix will have all of the angles covered as he reports daily on all of the goings-on from the tournament. You can follow him on Twitter, or check out his archive here.

- The CIS has produced a video profiling V-Reds captain Chris Culligan. Definitely worth checking out.

- In an article discussing the Windsor Lancers 4th consecutive CIS women's basketball championship (which they won last week against Saint Mary's), Chris Cochrane of the Halifax Chronicle Herald discusses how this kind of domination isn't new in the CIS. He mentions how Carleton (men's basketball), Laval (football), and UNB (men's hockey) have also enjoyed a prolonged period of success in recent years.
