Varsity Reds Shutout Tigers

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds dominated from start to finish in a 6-0 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers tonight in Halifax. UNB is now 6-1-1 on the season and remains one point behind 1st place Acadia.

- The Varsity Reds received 1st period goals from Cameron Brace (Braes, Maillet) on the power play at 6:37, Rob Mignardi (Gazzola, Willick) while shorthanded at 13:37, and Tyler Carroll (Braes, Brace) exactly three minutes later. Shots in the period were 19-8 in favour of UNB.

- The V-Reds doubled their lead in the 2nd period thanks to goals from Jordan Murray (Braes, Carroll) on the power play just 54 seconds into the frame, Francis Beauvillier (Willick) at 13:02, and Brace (Murray, Maillet) with his 2nd power play goal of the night at 18:31. Shots in the period were 7 apiece.

- There was no scoring in the 3rd period despite UNB outshooting the Tigers 18-6 and receiving a number of power plays.

- The V-Reds went with the same line-up as last night, as Alex Wall (injured) and Chris Caissy (scratched) remained out.

- Chris Carrozzi made his first start of the season and turned aside all 21 shots he faced to earn the shut-out.

- UNB's special teams had a big game as they went 3 for 10 with the man advantage, killed off all 8 of Dalhousie's opportunities, and scored a shorthanded goal.

- UNB won 34 out of the 62 face-offs in the game.

- In other AUS action tonight the Saint Mary's Huskies scored twice in the final 67 seconds to send the game into overtime before defeating St. Thomas 5-4 in Fredericton, Acadia picked up a 5-2 road victory over UPEI to remain in 1st place, and St. FX defeated Moncton 2-1 in a shootout tonight in Antigonish.

- UNB's next game action is next weekend when they travel to Moncton Friday night for a date with the Aigles Bleus. They finally return home the next night to host the UPEI Panthers. Both games are scheduled for a 7PM puck drop.
