In today's Halifax Chronicle Herald Glenn MacDonald confirms the recent speculation - Varsity Reds recruit Ben Duffy has left UNB and will instead suit up for the rival Saint Mary's Huskies in the fall. The move will allow Duffy the opportunity to play closer to his hometown of Lower Sackville. It appears that sitting out the 2nd half of last year due to UNB already being at the roster limit frustrated Duffy as well. The fact that the Huskies will be hosting the University Cup in two years time probably didn't hurt either.
This is undoubtedly a huge loss for the V-Reds as the former QMJHL scoring champion most likely had the inside track to replace Chris Culligan as the top line centre. However, knowing head coach Gardiner MacDougall and Co., they will find an equally talented replacement to round out a top-6 forward group that will be looking to replace both Culligan and Nick MacNeil's production and leadership.
