A few note-worthy stories from this past week:
- The Varsity Reds received all 16 2nd place votes in the latest CIS Top 10 to remain the 2nd ranked team in the country, behind the top-ranked University of Alberta. The other AUS teams to make the cut were Acadia (#3) and Saint Mary's (#6). St. FX also received a few votes to place 12th.
- The CIS has punished UQTR and their head coach Marc-Etienne Hubert for their accusations that UNB cheated when it came to the recruitment of Francis Beauvillier. On December 17th the CIS decided to fine the school $2000. place Hubert and the school on 24 months probation, and have UQTR issue a letter of apology to UNB and the CIS. David Kilfoil has more on the situation here. You can also read the official CIS document by following this link.
- Ryan Cooke of the Truro Daily News has a pair of articles about the newest V-Red, Dana Fraser. He talks to Fraser about his time at UPEI, his stint with Evansville of the ECHL, and the decision to join UNB. He also writes that while Fraser, who was a favourite among many Panthers fans, might not be the most popular guy at UPEI right now, you can't fault someone for deciding to pursue "a top-ranked master's degree while playing for a top-ranked hockey team."
