CIS Top Ten (#3): V-Reds Take Over Top Spot

For the first time sine February 19th, 2013 the UNB Varsity Reds are the top ranked CIS men's hockey team in the country, overtaking the defending University Cup champion Alberta Golden Bears in the latest CIS men's hockey national rankings released today. The Golden Bears had been ranked 1st in the last 29 national polls dating back to February 4th, 2014.

The Varsity Reds received 15 of 16 first place votes for 159 points, moving into the top spot for the 85th time in school history.

The Saskatchewan Huskies moved up to the second spot after receiving the other first place vote and 137 points. Alberta now sits third, their lowest ranking since October of 2012, after receiving 132 points.

Other AUS teams in the top ten include Acadia (#7), Saint Mary's (#8), and St. FX (#9). Moncton was ranked 13th.

The rankings should get sorted out further after this upcoming weekend as UNB hosts #7 Acadia on Friday night and #8 Saint Mary's Saturday night. Meanwhile, #2 Saskatchewan welcomes #3 Alberta to Saskatoon for a doubleheader.
