CIS Top Ten (#5): UNB Remains In Top Spot

As expected, the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds retained their position as the top team in latest CIS men's hockey rankings.

The V-Reds, who are now the lone team in the CIS without a regulation loss, had an impressive week in racking up 11-2, 5-1, and 4-2 wins over St. Thomas, Moncton, and UPEI respectively to improve to 8-0-1 on the season. They received 14 out of the 15 first place votes and 149 points from the panel of media members from across the country.

The Saskatchewan Huskies (9-1-0) picked up the other 1st place vote and 133 points to remain in 2nd place while McGill (9-1-0) overtook Alberta (6-3-1) for the 3rd spot. The UQTR Patriotes (8-1-1) rounded out the top five.

Other AUS teams receiving votes included Acadia (6th), St. FX (7th), and Moncton (10th).

The V-Reds will face perhaps their toughest task of the season this weekend when they go on the road to face Acadia on Friday night and Saint Mary's on Saturday night. It is likely they will still be short a few players due to injuries for both contests.
