CIS Top Ten (#6): McGill Moves Past UNB

An 0-1-1 weekend from the previously number one ranked University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds was enough for the McGill Redmen to take over the top spot in the latest CIS men's hockey rankings released yesterday.

UNB (8-1-2) had held the number one ranking for the previous three weeks but a 4-3 overtime loss to Acadia and a 4-2 loss to Saint Mary's last weekend caused them to fall into 2nd spot behind the Redmen (11-1-0). McGill received 10 out of 16  first place votes and 145 points from media members from across the country while UNB was awarded 3 first place votes and 138 points.

Saskatchewan (10-2-0), Alberta (8-3-1), and Acadia (8-2-1) rounded out the top five.

St. FX (8-1-2) was ranked 6th while Moncton and Saint Marys were 11th and 12th, respectively.

The V-Reds will face the X-Men in a first place showdown on Friday night in Antigonish before traveling to Halifax for a date with the Dalhousie Tigers the following night. Both games are scheduled for 7PM.
