Late Goals Propel V-Reds

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds scored twice in the final 5:14 to break a scoreless tie as they defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-0 tonight in Halifax. The V-Reds improve to 13-3-2 on the season and keep pace with the 1st place Acadia Axemen and the St. FX X-Men, who they are tied with for 2nd place.

After two fairly even periods the Varsity Reds took control of the game in the 3rd period. However, it took nearly 55 minutes to beat Tigers goalie Corbin Boes as rookie Christopher Clapperton (Brace, Braes) finally got UNB on the board on their 40th shot of the game after some nice passing deep in the Tigers zone. It was Clapperton's first career AUS goal and proved to be timely as it stood up for the game winner. Dylan Willick (Critchlow) put the game away with an empty net tally with only 25 seconds remaining.

Goaltender Alex Dubeau turned aside all 31 shots directed his way to pick up his second shut-out in 8 days against the Tigers.

Shots in the game were 42-31 for UNB.

- Other winners tonight included Acadia (defeated St. Thomas 3-2 in Fredericton), Saint Mary's (8-0 road win in Moncton), and St. FX (5-2 win over UPEI at home).

- UNB now travels to Antigonish for another big game tomorrow evening against the X-Men. Both teams are 13-3-2 on the season and sit three points behind the 15-2-1 Acadia Axemen. Game time is 7PM and can be viewed live at AUStv.ca.
