The Halifax Chronicle Herald has reported the AUS has suspended a pair of Varsity Red players as well as a member of the St. FX X-Men for their actions in Saturday night's game at the AUC.
Defencemen Matt Boudens (2 10-minute misconducts and a game misconduct) and Colin Suellentrop (5 minute major for contact to the head and a game misconduct) have both been suspended for one game, meaning they will miss Friday night's game against the Dalhousie Tigers. This will leave the V-Reds in a bit of a bind as they will only have four healthy defencemen available for the game (provided Marcus McIvor remains out due to injury). Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, this is a situation UNB has had some experience in this season as they played a number of games in the first half with only four defencemen. Both players will be eligible to return to the line-up on Saturday night for the rematch against the X-Men in Antigonish.
One player who will not be playing that night is defenceman Max Iafrate. Iafrate was suspended two games after picking up 29 minutes in penalties - including a fighting major, instigator, and game misconduct - against the V-Reds. Iafrate will miss Friday night's game against UPEI and Saturday night's game against UNB.
This weekend begins arguably the toughest stretch of the season for UNB. After facing Dalhousie they play consecutive road games against St. FX, Saint Mary's, and Acadia over the next two weekends. These games will go a long way in determining if the Varsity Reds can extend their streak of 1st place finishes and 20+ win seasons, which both currently stand 8 years running. All games are scheduled for 7PM and can be seen live on AUStv.ca.
