Although the season has been over for less than a week, a number of Varsity Reds have found new homes:
- Forward Cam Braes has signed an amateur tryout with the Stockton Heat, the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames. The 5th year native of Shawinigan Lake, BC capped his university career with a four goal performance in UNB's 5-3 win over Saskatchewan in last Sunday's University Cup final. It was Braes 3rd national championship (2013, 2016, 2017) to go along with a silver medal finish in 2015.
- 4th year defenceman Matt Petgrave has signed a standard player contract with the Brampton Beast, the ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens. Petgrave, who is from Brampton, leaves the Varsity Reds after having registered exactly 15 points in each of his four seasons, spanning 108 regular season games. He scored 13 goals, dished out 47 assists, and threw a number of highlight-reel hip checks while helping lead UNB to two national championships and a runner-up finish during his career.
- Graduating team captain Cameron Critchlow has been signed by the Adelaide Adrenaline of the eight team Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) for their upcoming season. Critchlow put up 72 points (29 goals, 43 assists) in 132 points during his five seasons at UNB and, like Braes, was part of three gold medal and one silver medal winning teams. He will join former UPEI Panthers captain Cole MacMillan with the Adrenaline.
- Jason Simmons of PEI's Journal Pioneer has a pair of articles about head coach Gardiner MacDougall, one discussing the University Cup victory and another talking about the upcoming busy offseason as the V-Reds will have a number of holes to fill.
