Pair Of Forwards Join V-Reds

The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds have announced Saginaw Spirit forwards Kris Bennett and Hayden Hodgson have signed USports Letters of Intent to join the team for the upcoming season.

Long rumoured to be joining the V-Reds, Bennett is a 5'11", 190 pound centre from Brampton Ontario who was an alternate captain for the Spirit last season. He has increased his point total from 24 points in 2014-2015 to 39 in 2015-2016 to a career-high of 51 (25 goals, 26 assists) in 66 games last year. Overall, he put up 114 points (57 goals, 57 assists) in 195 career OHL games, all with Saginaw.

The 6'2", 207 pound Hodgson also served as an alternate captain last season and is your prototypical power forward. After having spent time previously with the Erie Otters and Sarnia Sting, the native of Learnington, Ontario broke out with 38 goals and 66 points in 67 games last year for the Spirit. For his junior career, he posted 87 goals and 70 assists for 157 points in 294 career games.

Hodgson will be attending the Columbus Blue Jackets training camp next month.

Bennett and Hodgson combined for 63 goals last season for a Spirit squad that only managed to score 204 goals and finished with a 27-32-9 record.
