U Sports Top Ten: UNB Reclaims Top Spot

For the first time in three months, the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds are the top ranked team in the country after picking up a pair of road wins over the weekend, including a 2-1 shootout victory over the previous #1 ranked St. FX X-Men.

UNB returns to the pole position in the latest U Sports top ten men's hockey rankings after picking up 14 out of a possible 15 first place votes and 146 points overall, outdistancing St. FX (128 points), Saskatchewan (117 points, 1 first place vote), and Alberta (113 points).

The McGill Redmen (83), Acadia Axemen (80), Saint Mary's Huskies (45), Guelph Gryphons (44), UQTR Patriotes (35), and Concordia Stingers (20) made up the rest of the rankings this week.

The V-Reds - who have now been ranked in 224 straight polls, the second longest streak of all-time behind Alberta's 276 in a row between 1996 and 2012 - will play a pair of ranked teams this weekend when they host #7 Saint Mary's on Friday night and #6 Acadia on Saturday night.
