Clapperton Inks AHL Deal

Reds forward and AUS MVP Christopher Clapperton has agreed to terms on a one year, one-way, contract with the Belleville Senators, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Ottawa Senators, the team announced today.

In addition, the Senators have signed the 5'9", 174 pound winger to an amateur tryout agreement for the remainder of this season.

A former 5th round draft pick of the Florida Panthers, Clapperton enjoyed the best season of his UNB career this season, leading the league in scoring with 14 goals and 33 assists to claim MVP honours.

Over his three and a half years at UNB, the native of Cap d'Espoir, Quebec posted 118 points (45 goals, 73 assists) in 86 regular season games, tied for the 18th most in school history. He added another 16 points in 20 AUS playoff games and 12 points in 12 University Cup games (tied for 4th most in UNB history). Overall, his 146 career points are tied for 14th all-time in school history.

Since Clapperton's arrival on campus during the Christmas break in 2014-2015, UNB has enjoyed a 129-17-10 overall record, winning two AUS championships and three University Cup in the process.

Clapperton will be joining a Senators team that also features former teammate Jordan Murray (24 points in 46 games this season) and ex-Acadia Axemen forward Boston Leier (6 points in 33 games).
