Dubeau Sweeps Weekly Awards

What does a 3-0 record, 1.33 goals against average, and 0.948 save percentage during the University Cup get you? First, a 3rd championship in four years. Second, a tournament MVP. Lastly, a whole lot of athlete of the week awards.

Reds goaltender Alex Dubeau's stellar weekend, in which he stopped 73 out of 77 shots to lead UNB to another University Cup title, has earned him the UNB Reds/Papa John's Pizza male athlete of the week, the Subway AUS male athlete of the week, and U Sports male athlete of the week.

The native of Mascouche, Quebec was the difference maker in Friday afternoon's 2-1 win over the Carleton Raves, making a number of larcenous stops among the 22 saves he made. He was named the player of the game for his efforts. On Saturday night the Reds offense did most of the heavy lifting, but Dubeau did his part as well, stopping 19 out of the 20 shots St. FX sent his way in a 9-1 rout of the X-Men. He capped his incredible tournament on Sunday night in the gold medal game against the powerful Alberta Golden Bears, turning aside 32 out of 34 shots in a 4-2 victory.

Dubeau finished the postseason with a perfect 8-0 record and is 15-1 in his career in AUS playoff and University Cup games.
