Pronghorns No Match For Bears

As expected, the #1 seeded Alberta Golden Bears had no problem easily disposing the #8 seeded Lethbridge Pronghorns in the second quarter-final of the 2019 University Cup, thumping the hosts 7-1. The win sets up a rematch of last year's semi-final - and this year's Canada West final - with the rival Saskatchewan Huskies.

- The Bears, who held period leads of 1-0 and 4-1, received goals from U Sports Player of the Year Luke Philp (2), Ben Carroll, Cole Sanford, Sawyer Lange, Trevor Cox, and Brandon Magee.

- Replying for the Pronghorns was former St. Thomas Tommie Connor Sanvido, who made it 2-1 early in the second period. The game would remain close until the Bears tacked on a pair of goals in the latter half of the period, including one with only 17 seconds remaining in the period, and never looked back.

- Philp (2 goals, 2 assists) was named Alberta's player of the game and no doubt impressed the various scouts in attendance as he was a threat all game long.

- Shots were 30-15 for the Golden Bears.

- Alberta went 1 for 3 with the power play and also scored a shorthanded goal. Lethbridge was 0 for 4 with the man advantage.

- The Bears and Huskies will renew acquaintances at 4PM AST on Saturday with a trip to Sunday's gold medal game on the line.

- The next quarter-final game goes tomorrow at 4PM AST as the #2 University of New Brunswick Reds face the #7 Carleton Ravens.
