Cook Leads X-Men Comeback

The #3 seeded Queen's Gaels jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead only to see the resilient #6 seeded St. FX X-Men rattle off five straight goals for a 5-3 victory in the last quarter-final match-up at the 2019 University Cup. The X-Men move on to face the UNB Reds in tomorrow nights semi-final.

- The Gaels received a pair of goals from Luke Edwards and Francesco Vilardi in taking a 3-0 lead less than 17 minutes into the game. They could have had more if not for some timely saves from Chase Marchand to keep the game from getting too far out of hand.

- After missing a number of playoff games the X-Men got a big boost with the return of leading scorer Holden Cook to the line-up. He proved to be a difference maker on this night with three points. His power play goal at 18:04 of the first period after a lucky bounce off the end boards got St. FX off and running as they were in control for most of the remaining 52 minutes of the game. He added a nice assist on Adam Stevens second period power play goal before tying the game on a scramble in front of the Gael's net 9:19 into the third period.

- Adam Laishram scored the eventual game-winning goal with just over six minutes remaining and Sam Studnicka put it away with an empty netter in the final minute.

- Shots in the game were 40-32 for St. FX.

- The X-Men went 2 for 5 on the power play. Queen's converted on their only opportunity.

- Cook and Edwards were the players of the game.

- OUA teams are now 0 for their last four University Cups, going 0-12 in that time.

- The two semi-finals are not only rematches of the Canada West and AUS Final, but also rematches of last years semi-finals in which Alberta and St. FX came out on top.

- Both games will be broadcast on Sportsnet 360. Alberta/Saskatchewan goes at 4PM AST while UNB/St. FX is slated for a 9PM AST start.
