Some notes of interest:

- The Varsity Reds 7 championships and 12 championship games rank 3rd to Alberta (16 and 21) and Toronto (10 and 13) all-time.

- Their 5 championship game losses are tied with Alberta and Saint Mary's for 2nd most all-time. Saskatchewan holds the dubious distinction of losing 6 championship games.

- The V-Reds have won 6 titles and appeared in 8 title games in the last 12 years.

- They have reached the gold medal game in 12 out of their last 15 appearances at the tournament.

- Interestingly, the three times they failed to reach the final, the tournament was held in Fredericton. The last nine times they have had to travel to the University Cup, the Reds played in the championship game.

- UNB will be appearing in their 5th straight tournament for the first time in school history. This means seniors Randy Gazzola, Matt Boudens, and Cameron Brace have made the University Cup every year of their UNB careers. They are looking to add to their collection of two gold emedals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal.

- Boudens and Gazzola are currently tied with five others for the most University Cup games played in UNB history at 12.

-  The Reds have played in a medal game in each of their previous five appearances at the tournament.

- UNB is 35-12 all-time at the University Cup, which equates to a 0.745 winning percentage. They are 28-7 (0.800) under Gardiner MacDougall.

- This includes 25 wins in their last 29 games.

- They have out-scored the opposition 193-117 in those games for an average of 4.10 goals per game and 2.49 goals against per game.

- UNB has recorded 7 shut-outs at the University Cup. They have never been shut-out.

- They are 7-3 all-time in games decided in overtime.

- This is the 4th time UNB will be attending a University Cup out west.

- In their previous three appearance - all in Saskatoon - they won two gold medals (1998 and 2013) and one silver medal (2000).

- The Reds have never played a University Cup game against either Lethbridge of Carleton. Their all-time University Cup record against the other participating schools is 4-4 against Alberta, 1-0 against Guelph, 1-0 against Queen's, 6-0 against Saskatchewan, 1-2 against St. FX.

- Next season the University Cup will return to Halifax with the Acadia Axemen assuming hosting duties.
