Harvey, Gagne Commit

EDIT (2): The committment of Gagne is now team-official.

EDIT: The Reds have announced the commitment of Harvey. A pair of French articles discussing the move can be found here and here.

According to Victor Findlay - and the U Sports Letter of Intent Registry - the defending University Cup champion University of New Brunswick Reds have received a commitment from goaltender Samuel Harvey and defenceman Benjamin Gagne.

With the departure of Alex Dubeau the Reds were in need of a goaltender to pair with the returning Rylan Parenteau, and in Harvey they land arguably the most sought after CHL netminder on the market.

The 6', 185 pound product of Alma, Quebec spent his entire five year junior career with the QMJHL's Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, posting a career record of 129-46-9. He was especially spectacular in his final two seasons. He went 30-9-2 with a 2.10 GAA and 0.930 save percentage in 2017-2018 before going 35-8-0 with a 2.08 GAA and 0.926 save percentage this past season, backstopping the Huskies to their first Memorial Cup championship. Harvey recently attended the Florida Panthers development camp.

Benjamin Gagne - a 6', 183 pound native of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Quebec - split his five year QMJHL career between the Drummondville Voltigeurs, Quebec Remparts, and Saint John Sea Dogs, amassing 28 goals and 77 assists in 299 games. Much like Harvey, his final two seasons were by far his best. He put up 10 goals and 28 assists in 66 games for the Remparts in 2017-2018. He then entered the 2018-2019 season as the Remparts captain (after former and future teammate Matthew Boucher graduated) and contributed 6 goals and 13 assist in 35 games before being dealt to a rebuilding Sea Dogs squad, where he ended his junior career with 4 goals and 12 assists in 30 games.

With Harvey, Gagne, and fellow defenceman Zachary Lauzon committed for the upcoming season the Reds will now most likely focus on bolstering their forward ranks over the coming months.
