News And Notes: Development Camps, Lauzon, Maillet, Murray, Tickets

Some tidbits as the off-season creeps past the halfway mark:

- A number of Reds players participated in NHL development camps last week. Stephen Anderson and Mark Simpson joined former star Christopher Clapperton at Ottawa Senators camp while Matthew Boucher was attending the Pittsburgh Penguins camp.

- Head coach Gardiner MacDougall was also busy as he was invited to the Detroit Red Wings camp as a guest coach.

- Defenceman Zachary Lauzon, who has reportedly committed to play at UNB next year pending a pro offer, was also at Pittsburgh's camp. The big defenceman is a former 2nd round draft pick of the Penguins, but went unsigned after suffering several injuries. He has only played 25 games for the QMJHL's Rouyn-Noranda Huskies over the last two years - including none this past year - due to a concussion and a foot injury. He is a former QMJHL Defensive D-Man of the Year and is the younger brother of Boston Bruins defenceman Jeremy Lauzon.

- Former UNB forward - and U Sports Player of the Year - Philippe Maillet has signed a two-year, two-way, 1.4M contract with the Washington Capitals. Maillet has spent the last two years with the AHL's Ontario Reign (Los Angeles), posting 94 points in 140 games. He had a career high 54 points in 68 games last year. Maillet joins Darryl Boycs, Rob Hennigar, Kevin Henderson, and Hunter Tremblay as former UNB players who have signed NHL deals in the past 13 years.

- Maillet's former teammate Jordan Murray has agreed to a one year contract to return to the Belleville Senators, Ottawa's AHL affiliate. Murray contributed 26 points in 54 games last season and is the franchise leader in goals (17), assists (32), and points (49) for a defenceman.

- All-sport season passes for the 2019 - 2020 season went on sale earlier today. New purchases can be made at the box office or online while renewals can only be done in person. There doesn't appear to be much of a change from previous years in terms of prices (Adults - $225, Seniors/Staff - $200, Youth/Student - $75) or accessibility (tickets are valid for all Reds home exhibition, tournament, conference, and playoff games). Please note that season pass holders from last year have until September 30th to renew their past season's seats.
