D-Man MacDougall Transferring To Reds

Acadia Axemen defenceman Ross MacDougall has decided to continue his education and playing career with the team he grew up cheering for as the Reds announced yesterday that the veteran defender will be joining the team for the upcoming 2021-2022 season. After three years in Wolfville, MacDougall will enroll in the Sport and Recreation Management MBA program.

MacDougall is a 5'11", 181 pound native of St. Stephen, New Brunswick who played 182 games across four seasons in the QMJHL with the Quebec Remparts and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. He amassed 28 goals and 81 assists during his junior career with his best season coming in 2016-2017 when he posted 10 goals and added 29 assists in 63 games.

After his time in the 'Q', the defenceman joined the Axemen prior to the 2018-2019 season. He tallied 7 points in 27 games in his rookie season before improving to 15 points in 29 games in his second campaign. He was Acadia's lone goal scorer in the deciding game of the 2020 AUS Final, a game in which the Reds won 5-1 to claim the conference title.

Head coach Gardiner MacDougall says Ross is "an experienced, veteran defender and has been one of the most improved players in the AUS. He has great puck-moving skills, is a top-notch skater and he's got a very high hockey IQ. He's been one of the top defenceman in our league."

MacDougall and his new teammates open the regular season on October 6th at the AUC against Moncton.
