Dear Readers,
After much deliberation we have made the tough decision to cease operation of UNBHockeyfans.com effective immediately.
There are a variety of factors that led us to this conclusion, including some that were out of our control, but ultimately it has become increasingly difficult in recent years to find the time, energy, and motivation needed to ensure the site remains relevant and up-to-date.
It is always much more enjoyable to cover a team that is successful and we have been privileged to tell the stories of the University of New Brunswick (Varsity) Reds men’s hockey team during one of the most dominant periods of any team in CIS/U SPORTS history.
Since the inception of this website the program has reached heights we would have never previously imagined - National Championships in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, and 2019, record-breaking regular seasons in 2008 and 2010, and too many memorable games, players, and moments to list.
Of course, there has been heartbreak as well - the shocking playoff sweep at the hands of St. FX in 2010, disappointing losses to Western and St. FX on home ice at the 2012 and 2018 University Cups, the national final loss to Alberta in 2015, and the cancellation of the 2020 University Cup when UNB may have had their best team ever.
Regardless of the outcomes, it was always an honour to write about this team for all of our readers and, unquestionably, the best and most supportive fans in the country. Without all of you this would not have been worth it, so we want to thank each and every person who took the time to read us over the last 13 years.
While we will no longer be providing new content, fortunately there are still a number of excellent resources available to stay up to date on the latest UNB Hockey news.
